Watercooling your CPU and GPU

Water cooling is one of the most preferred methods of cooling your PC. Essentially, water cooling involves a collection of pipes and a pump which run water over the heated components. And with evolving technology, liquid coolers are now becoming more advanced, more efficient and also cheaper to buy. Soon, you’ll be able to buy a high-quality water cooler for under 100$. This is a huge opportunity for all those gamers and heavy CPU users who complain about the heat their CPU and GPU put out. Another reason to water cool is the lower the noise of your monster rig. We recommend you only put together a water-cooled computer if you are the type of person who does laptop repair or computer repair on your own computers. There is some level of knowledge when setting up your water-cooled beast. Today you have many online videos that will help you figure out how to do this.

How does it work?

Liquid cooling, popularly known as water cooling, involves removing heat from components and transmitting that heat through a tubing and radiators. Just like how the cooling system of a car engine works, it uses a simple method of removing heat away from hot components like CPU, RAM, and GPU’s. The heat from a computer usually comes from components generating heat as electricity moves around them. The liquid cooling system will use a copper block which helps dissipate heat from the components. The liquid will then be passed over a radiator radiators which take away the heat by the fans that are attached. This method is about the same as the cooling system in your car. A pump pushed the water around, the copper blocks help transfer heat to the pipes. The pipes take the water in closed-loop. The radiator help to increase the volume of water which helps form the water to overheat by having reserves. The radiators dissipate heat produced by the components and the fans on the rad help to blow hot air away.

More efficient air coolers There have been huge developments in air coolers that put water coolers at a risk of being outdated and later extinct. The company Noctua for example has designed a revolutionary air cooler that are highly efficient and can handle up to 99 % of PCs which have been overclocked. With such statistics, it’s hard to beat such an air cooler. However, air coolers have one major problem; they are too noisy. It is said that fans from an air cooler produce up to 50 decibels of sound when a game is loading. This might be a nuisance to you if you prefer to use your PC silently. Here, liquid coolers have an advantage because they are silent.

Leak testing

A leak test is done to see if the liquid cooling system is leaking any water from the liquid block. Essentially, it is supposed to be done for 24 hours and will ensure that your water cooler is working well. After leak testing, you can stay for many months without leak testing again. When doing the leak test, you will have to monitor the flow of water inside the tubes and ensure that not even a single drop leaks or you could be visiting your local PC, laptop or computer repair expert or even worst having to buy new PC components. The type of damage an improper leak test could be catastrophic when compared to a simple laptop screen repair or screen replacement service.

You can also opt to leak test for a shorter time, but the time should be long enough for you to notice any leaks or abnormalities. This is the best way to ensure that the water cooling system is safe for use.
